Tone on tone
To easily change their style, many women turn to color services in a hair salon. While permanent hair coloring is the most frequently requested, another service is also very popular: tone-on-tone coloring. Less aggressive because it is ammonia-free, it has become popular thanks to the natural result it offers, while increasing the shine and intensity of the hair.
However, this dye will not be suitable for all hair types and needs. Hairdressers, it is therefore up to you to clearly identify your client's expectations in order to guide her or not towards this process.
When to opt for the semi-permanent method?
This method will be particularly recommended for a client who wishes to stay close to her natural color while adding more highlights, especially on dark hair shades. Be careful, this type of dye does not have the power to lighten as it does not go through a bleaching process and the pigments do not penetrate the hair cuticles. It will be appreciated by those who do not want demarcation effects on their roots since the color fades over time with shampoos, and lasts about six weeks.
Dull and lifeless hair? This is an opportunity to restore light to the hair by adorning it with beautiful highlights, on a chestnut base for example, or to give purity to gray hair.
You can also use it if your client has damaged or sensitized hair. The gentler formula of this hair color will indeed prevent further damage to already damaged hair fibers.
Finally, tone-on-tone will be ideal for camouflaging the first gray hairs. However, this type of coloring does not cover more than 80% due to its ammonia-free formula, unlike permanent coloring.
How to apply and maintain a tone-on-tone?
This dye must be mixed with a developer: you can choose a universal one or one from the same brand as the chosen color for a more conclusive result. It is then applied like any other color but has a shorter processing time. To enhance it over time, opt for treatments and antioxidant products containing UV filters. After several applications, they will increase its shine and radiance.
